This year's Challenge:

On your mark, get set, flow!
Drink in the 2017/2018 HYDRO DYNAMICSSM season and learn all about water – how we find, transport, use, or dispose of it. In the 2017/2018 FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge, students age 9 to 16* from 80 countries will make a splash with HYDRO DYNAMICS. What might become possible when we understand what happens to our water?

FIRST LEGO League challenges kids in over 80 countries to think like scientists and engineers.  During the HYDRO DYNAMICS season, teams will choose and solve a real-world problem in the Project.  They will also build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game.  Throughout their experience, teams will operate under the FIRSTLEGO League signature set of Core Values, celebrating discovery, teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism®

Welcome to FIRST LEGO League. This program introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society. Elementary and middle-school students get to: Design, build, test and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology Apply real-world math and science concepts Research challenges facing today’s scientists Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills, and participate in tournaments and celebrations. "What FLL teams accomplish is nothing short of amazing. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And the skills they learn will last a lifetime."

  • We are a team.

  • We do the work. Our coaches and mentors help us learn, but we find the answers ourselves.

  • We share our experiences and discoveries with others.

  • We are helpful, kind, and show respect when we work, play, and share. We call this Gracious Professionalism™.

  • We are all winners.

  • We have fun.

Each team will have one or more adult volunteer coaches and 6-10 team members, aged 9-14. Teams will meet once or twice a week for 8 weeks and may culminate with an Amherst Exhibition and/or participation in a local tournament or showcase. (Costs associated with tournaments are not included in our participation fees.)

Please consider volunteering! The best way to choose the meeting schedule is to coach :)
